Morocco - Ouaneskra

The village of Ouaneskra is found
in the Imnane Valley which is about 60km from Marrakech
as the crow flies, but due to the lack fo roads you will have
to use the coll of Tizi -n -Ticka which rises up to 2297m between
the villages of Imlil and Ouaneskra.
At the top is a welcome tea stop. The views are breath taking
of the two valleys and the numerous peaks of the High Atlas
Mountains. Stop off at the top and enjoy a cool drink, or just
soak up the view.
The roads in this valley stop
500m before the village of Ouaneskra so the only way in is by
mule or 2 wheels at the end of the track. If you would like
to take the mule track direct from the valley floor follow a local mountain guide.
The Berber Clans have controlled these High Atlas mountains for many cenuries after they were forced into the mountains
by the inviding Arab powers in the 7th century. They still are..
so lots of respect for the locals!
Gite Soleil

The Gite Soleil is a relaxing
place to stay in the villlage of Ouaneskra.
Here the telephone
lines have not reached the Imnane Valley nor is the mobile telephone
able to get a signal due to the pass cutting of the signal from
the other valley, odd for Morocco. But who needs fixed lines
when you've got the "Berber Telephone" giving a complete
cover of the valley and its surrounding passes.
