Port Medoc (N 45° 33' 32" W 01° 03' 39"), located on the southern side of the Gironde Estuary in the Aquitaine is the latest marina to be constructed on the Atlantic coast of France.

This well seltered port with over 800 moorings and berths for 6m - 20m (permanent and temporary, 40 visitors’ berths), fuel, water, electricity, sanatary facilities and shops is ideal if you are sailing down the coast towards Bilbao or you a looking for a marina in France which does not have a ten year waiting list. The port has a depth of 2m - 3 m and is accessable at all tides, but care must be taken when you have a big swell running in the Atlantic.

In May the Port Medoc holds its annual boat show, where you can taste some of the local Medoc wines while you admire or enquire about buying your latest motor boat or yacht. The port boasts two restaurants on the quay front, where you and relax after a day on the water, but after that the choice is limited to taking a taxi, bus or hiring a car and heading off to Soulac-sur-Mer. If you are in the port and looking for a chandlers or a boat parts supplier try out Tyalan Accastillage which can be found in the main square opposite the Captainerie. In the back of the port you can find Medoc Rent, where you can rent bicicyles, quads, scooters and all sorts of water sports equipment.

Port estuary front

Travelling to Port Medoc by car from the north; leave the A10 at Saintes (J25) follow signs for Royan. Find the Bac at the Point de Grave (ferry). Crossing of the Gironde is about 30 min. Watch out for queues in high season. Follow the road 3 km and take the turning to your left marked Port Medoc. By car from the south, leave the Bordeaux ring road (junction 8). Follow the RN 215 until Salaunes passing Castelnau de Medoc, St-Laurent and Lesparre before turning right just before Le Verdon-sur-Mer. ( watch out the turning is a bit dangerous)
