Oukaimeden is the Moroccan ski resort at 2650m. The ski chairs take you up to 3243m where the views of the surrounding mountains and valleys is a must. If there's no snow, take a bike to the top!
I was here in the summer months on a quick tour on the ty250, and I had a difficult col to cross before sun set.. So it was a cafe au lait "Chez Juju" before heading for the Col de Tizi-n-Eddi at 2928m connecting to Ouaneskra in the Tizi-Immane valley.
The resort has 6 T- Bars and 1 chair lift. Toubkal is about 10 miles northeast of here. Or you can ascend the mountain by mule.
This small lift infrastructure gives you the lift into the High Atlas were you can find untracked powder through the white oasis by digging out of your sack your snow rackets and sticks. The off-piste is endless, giving you days to discover the hidden valleys which are connected by mules through out the year. So get some snow-rackets and get on up here. Or you can rent ski and snowboard equipment on arrival. Probably one of the most orginal places to go skiing or snowboarding in the world..
The Berber Clans have controlled these High Atlas mountains for many cenuries after they were forced into the mountains by the inviding Arab powers in the 7th century. They still are.. so lots of respect for the locals!
Hotel Chez Juju If you would like to book a few days in this resort while you fill your days with the adventures in these mountains; the first hotel to be made in the high altitude sports village of Oukaimeden is where you could be staying. Chez Yuyu is the image of good health. It was the first hotel to be made in this high altitude sports village which is under the hour from Marrakech.
The Hotel has a well stocked bar and fabolus restaurant. At this altitude be careful. The effects from one beer can be very strong at 2650m .. ;)written : 2002 updated : 2020
